In case of issues like you mention, I have a second, backup laptop with me. A little more burdensome to carry and nowhere near as powerful, but it's enough to do the job. I don't know that it would have been any use in your situation, as it takes almost that long to boot, but if something catastrophic happens to the first one, I've got the spare.
